Kimberly Cockrill writes romantic comedy as Kimberly Jayne and gothic dark fantasy as Dark Kimber. Most people know her simply as Kimber.

A storyteller since the age of five, Kimber has written just about everything for websites, clients, publications, and businesses. She wrote humor features for Playgirl magazine, appeared in the 2011 Austin production of Ann Imig’s Listen to Your Mother Show, and created the popular mid-aughts humor blog Fragrant Liar. Her professional life has also included small-business ownership, marketing, writing, and editing.

As Kimberly Jayne, she writes unconventional romantic comedies populated by deeply flawed characters who inhabit worlds where the hilarious is tinged with complexity and the dramatic is rife with irony.

As Dark Kimber, she explores people’s hidden selves and plays “what if” with their lives. She is fascinated by the things we bury, the things we fear, and the things we might become when the rules we’ve lived by no longer apply. She likes her fantasy gothic, her characters complicated, and her monsters difficult to distinguish from everyone else.

Kimber's favorite quote about writing comes from Robert Heinlein: “Writing is not necessarily something to be ashamed of, but do it in private and wash your hands afterwards.” Kimber has often said that her thoughts may not always be clean, but her hands are.

​

The mother of four daughters, Kimber grew up in Arizona and spent most of her adult life in Texas. She now lives in Georgia with her favorite feline, Louie Floof.
