About Kimber
I've been a writer since I was five years old, scribbling stories in my grandfather's sporting goods store and real estate office (yes, those things go together). In 1960, on 7th Street in Sunnyslope, a desert suburb of Phoenix, Arizona, I crafted my first fantasy with a dull-nubbed pencil and a yellow-lined pad about pigs flying.
Yeah, I started that schtick. Heh.
Grampa was an early fan.

I'm the mother of four daughters and have been, at various times in my life, a small business owner, a cat wrangler, and a professional writer and editor, among other things. I've also had husbands. I prefer cats.
I’ve written just about everything and for various websites, clients, and businesses. I wrote five humor features for Playgirl Magazine back in the day. That was fun. I was also a cast member in the 2011 production of Ann Imig's Listen to Your Mother Show in Austin. And I blogged as Fragrant Liar in the mid-aughts—one of the most fun things I've ever done.
As Kimberly Jayne, I write unconventional romantic comedies with characters that leap off the page, demand to crash on your couch, and control the remote. I like worlds where the hilarious is tinged with complexity and the dramatic is rife with irony.
As Dark Kimber, I explore people's hidden selves and play "what if" with their lives. I'm fascinated by the things we bury, the things we fear, and the things we might become when the rules we've lived by no longer apply. I like my fantasy gothic, my characters complicated, and my monsters difficult to distinguish from everyone else.
My feelings about writing can be summed up in a favorite quote from Robert Heinlein who quipped, “Writing is not necessarily something to be ashamed of, but do it in private and wash your hands afterwards.” My thoughts may not always be clean, but my hands are.
After growing up in Arizona and living most of my adult life as a Texan, I currently live in Georgia with my favorite feline, Louie Floof.
